It’s buffed by gunslinger or rifleman perks. Best barrel is the aligned for less vats consumption. True barrel is decent for non vats as it has less spread. Best legendary effects are currently AA or V. Might add bloodied when the energy fix is implemented.

Plasma Throwers tend to have better range and you can use them in VATS (not long range). So theoretically, melee weapons and flamers/Cryolators/plasma throwers will break more often because you're landing more hits and they're virtually useless in VATS (legacies are of course the exception).
