Protist morphology
WebbProtists are a group of organisms that include all eukaryotes except land plants, fungi, and animals. They represent some, but not all, of the descendants of a single common ancestor. -No synapomorphies define the protists. There is no trait that is found in protists but no other organisms. Fungi are more closely related to animals than to plants. WebbEarly, morphology- based studies often identified the same protist species in distinct host species (Kirby 1949), but 18S rRNA sequence data have revealed considerable molecular divergence within these protist morphospecies that were reported to inhabit different hosts (Gile et al. 2013; James, Tai, et al. 2013).
